So Why Lakewood?
If you’ve ever driven through Lakewood, chances are you immediately understood why so many people fall in love with this special corner of Dallas. There is simply something different about it. Maybe it’s the towering oak trees that create a canopy over the streets. Maybe it’s the beautiful architecture that gives every block its own personality. Or perhaps it’s the feeling of community that’s increasingly hard to find in larger cities.
After spending years helping families buy and sell homes here—and calling East Dallas home myself—I can honestly say that Lakewood isn’t just another neighborhood. It’s a lifestyle.

You’ll find beautifully restored Craftsman homes sitting next to timeless Tudors, elegant Colonials, Mediterranean-inspired residences, Mid-Century Modern gems, and thoughtfully designed new construction that blends seamlessly into the neighborhood.
Many of these homes were built between the 1920s and 1940s, giving the neighborhood an authenticity that’s difficult to recreate today. Original hardwood floors, detailed millwork, inviting front porches, leaded glass windows, and mature landscaping all contribute to Lakewood’s timeless appeal.
The lots themselves are another huge advantage. Many properties feature generous yards shaded by mature live oaks, pecans, and other beautiful trees that have been growing for decades. During the spring and fall, the neighborhood is simply stunning.
The Tree Canopy Makes All the Difference
One of my favorite things about Lakewood is something that often doesn’t show up in listing photos—the incredible tree canopy.
As you drive through the neighborhood, enormous trees line nearly every street, creating shaded sidewalks and giving the area a peaceful, established feel. During the hot Texas summers, those trees make walking, biking, or simply enjoying your front porch much more pleasant.
It’s one of those features buyers often don’t realize they’re looking for until they experience it.
White Rock Lake Is Truly Lakewood’s Backyard
Perhaps no amenity defines Lakewood more than White Rock Lake.
Just minutes from nearly every home in the neighborhood, White Rock Lake serves as an extension of residents’ backyards. Whether you’re an early morning runner, an avid cyclist, a paddleboard enthusiast, or simply someone who enjoys watching the sunset over the water, there’s something for everyone.
The nine-mile trail around the lake is one of the most popular recreation destinations in Dallas. On any given morning you’ll see runners training for marathons, cyclists logging miles, families pushing strollers, and neighbors walking their dogs.
Kayaking, rowing, sailing, bird watching, fishing, and picnicking are all part of everyday life here.
One of my favorite things about White Rock Lake is how connected the community feels. It’s common to bump into neighbors while walking the trails or grabbing coffee afterward.
Nature lovers also appreciate the incredible wildlife around the lake. Great blue herons, pelicans, egrets, turtles, foxes, and even the famous nesting bald eagles have become local celebrities over the past several years.
Living close to White Rock Lake is something many buyers specifically ask for, and once they experience it, it’s easy to understand why.
Outstanding Schools
Families moving to Lakewood are often drawn by the highly regarded public schools serving the neighborhood.

Founded more than a century ago, the club offers championship golf, tennis, swimming, dining, fitness facilities, and a vibrant social calendar throughout the year.
Families enjoy holiday celebrations, junior golf, youth swim programs, and countless opportunities to connect with neighbors.
The beautifully maintained golf course also provides some of the neighborhood’s most scenic views.
Incredible Dining Scene
One of the biggest changes I’ve seen over the past several years is the growth of Lakewood’s restaurant scene.
The neighborhood has become one of East Dallas’ favorite destinations for dining, whether you’re looking for a casual brunch, date night, family dinner, or happy hour.

Maman has quickly become one of the hottest additions to the neighborhood. Known for its French-inspired bakery, pastries, coffee, sandwiches, and beautiful interior, it’s become a favorite morning meeting spot.
Hudson House continues to draw crowds with its East Coast-inspired menu, oysters, lobster rolls, and famous happy hour.
Hillside Tavern offers elevated American comfort food with a relaxed neighborhood atmosphere.
Due’ Cucina has brought authentic Italian pasta to the neighborhood and has become popular for both lunch and dinner.
Resident Taqueria remains one of East Dallas’ hidden gems, serving creative tacos and outstanding margaritas.
Cane Rosso continues to be one of Dallas’ favorite places for authentic Neapolitan pizza.
Lakewood Landing remains a longtime neighborhood institution where locals gather for burgers, drinks, and live music.
Mi Cocina is always a favorite for Tex-Mex and Mambo Taxis.
Times Ten Cellars offers a wonderful place to enjoy wine with friends just minutes from home.

Hillside Village
Hillside Village has become one of my favorite places to shop locally.
It’s the kind of shopping center where you can run several errands, enjoy lunch with a friend, grab a coffee, and support local businesses—all without driving across town.
The center offers a great mix of restaurants, boutiques, beauty services, fitness studios, and everyday conveniences.
Having these amenities just minutes from home makes everyday life much easier.
Walkability and Community
One of the biggest reasons people stay in Lakewood is the lifestyle.
Many neighborhoods in Dallas require getting in the car for nearly everything. Lakewood feels different.
Depending on where you live, it’s easy to walk to neighborhood restaurants, coffee shops, White Rock Lake, parks, local events, and even visit friends nearby.
Front porches are still used.
Neighbors know one another.
Children ride bicycles.
Families walk dogs in the evenings.
It’s a community where people genuinely interact.
That sense of belonging has become increasingly valuable.

The Lakewood Home Festival has become one of the neighborhood’s signature events, giving residents and visitors an opportunity to tour some of the area’s most beautiful homes while supporting local schools.
